Dear Stephen,
Well said and thoughtful. I have felt this but been unable to express it. This reminds me of a statement made from the pulpit by a pastor: "Sheep beget sheep, the pastor shepherds them". I n other words, it is the body of Christ at large that should be the message-takers, not the heads of churches and public ministries (except as their personal lives give them opportunity).
I know that in the past there has been great success with Camp Meetings and Evangelistic Crusades. I wonder if our society, with its cynicism and distrust of public personalities, has moved beyond the place where these things even work anymore. It seems much better to me that we speak compassionately to those we encounter to bring them hope and salvation. Hooray for AA for their insight!
