Talking to Michelle about our Spiritual partnership I informed her that I was amazed to find someone so beautiful that also had Jesus at the center of her world rather than merely as a convenient "add-on". She also was surprised by how few people she knew that orchestrate their life around Jesus rather than merely add him to an already busy life...
I remember visiting an NA meeting and hearing someone say, "So long as God is merely a mantle that you wear rather than an orchestrating principle in your life, you'll never get clean..." Most of us don't know what it means to be addicted to drugs. So in many ways the addicts in that room have us whipped. They know they can't survive without their Higher Power being front and center.
Too many of us do very well without God. He is a convenience rather than a necessity. The trouble is that he is not very convenient. We doubt him because he doesn't come through for us. The trouble is that we have pushed him so far to the periphery of our lives he has no way to really change us so that he can answer our requests...
My first marriage failed in large part do to our disappointment in each other. Mine that my ex never brought God to the center of her life and instead built her life around money, career, prestige, position and status. Hers was that I was an unfaithful wretch. We made promises that we were unable to fulfill to one another. Over the years since I have discovered that I cannot make it with anyone unless God is at the center of their universe. I've found her, and I am grateful
